Please join us for Professor Elizabeth S. Bolman’s lecture, “The Egyptian Red Monastery Church: The Agency of Visual Culture,” at the the Staatliche Antikensammlungen und Glyptothek, Munich, on January 25, 2022, at 13h15 EST. The lecture presents the result of a ten-year multidisciplinary project that involved the cleaning and preservation of spectacular and unique early Byzantine paintings in the church of the Red Monastery. The preserved church, which among other things houses a monumental painting of the breastfeeding Mother of God in a secco technique, has attracted a great deal of international attention.
