Lauren Lovings-Gomez

Lauren Lovings-Gomez: “My dissertation is titled “Materiality, Innovation, and Women Artists in Nineteenth-Century Britain” and reconsiders women artists in nineteenth-century Britain by centering materiality as a critical framework for understanding their innovation, agency, and contributions to visual culture. Through a materially grounded, feminist approach, I argue that these artists were not peripheral figures, but active agents who reshaped artistic practices and meanings through their engagement with diverse media. I’m thankful to my committee members Leo Costello, Joseph Manca, and Helena Michie and to the Eva L. Pancoast Memorial Fellowship at CWRU, which provided me with the opportunity to take my first trip to England to view works by these women artists in person.”
