Congratulations to Marina Mandrikova on being selected for two highly prestigious fellowships! The Council of the American Overseas Research Centers named Marina a recipient of the Multi-Country Research Fellowship, funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. This fellowship supports advanced research in the humanities and social sciences for U.S. doctoral candidates and scholars. Marina is using this award to conduct her dissertation research in Bulgaria, Serbia, and North Macedonia this summer, and she will continue working on her dissertation at the Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute and the American School of Classical Studies at Athens during summer 2025. In addition, Dumbarton Oaks has appointed Marina as a Junior Fellow in the Byzantine Studies program for 2024-2025. Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, DC is a Harvard University research institute and a leading North American center that supports and advances Byzantine Studies. Marina will reside at Dumbarton Oaks this coming academic year and become part of its superb international community of scholars and graduate students. She will work on her dissertation project, Crime and Punishment: Images of Sinners and the Power of the Visual in Byzantine and Slavic Monumental Painting.
