Laura Rybicki and Cecily Hughes Awarded Grants to Travel to UK

Laura and Cecily are honored and elated to be the recipients of 2023 travel grants. Laura was awarded a Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities Graduate Research Grant, and Cecily was awarded one of this year’s Student Research Grants from the International Center of Medieval Art (ICMA). Both Laura and Cecily will be using the funds to help support summer travel to the UK for the NLHF Medieval Animals Heritage Conference, “Skin, Bone, Wood, and Stone.” There, Laura will present her paper “Skinning the Saint: Saint Bartholomew’s Flayed Body and the Medieval Book,” and Cecily will present her paper “Dragons, Diminished: A 12th-century Christian Object and a Pagan Past.” Held in person at Christ Church University, the gathering will engage a wide range of attendees both through its subject matter—medieval animals—and programming, which includes family-friendly events alongside an academic conference. Congratulations, Laura and Cecily!
