MWF 11:30-12:30
Meghan Strong, PhD
From millennia, the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Nubia developed alongside each other in the Nile Valley. This course will explore the distinct visual and material culture of these two neighbors but also examine the artistic implications of cross-cultural interaction in these regions. We will investigate issues of race, colonization, and nationalism – both ancient and modern – and how they have played a significant roll in our understanding of Egypt and Nubia. The course will draw on a variety of artistic media and methodologies in order to understand the social and cultural factors that influenced the production, consumption, and reception of art from these ancient lands.
