Congratulations to Maggie Popkin who was promoted to Associate Professor effective July 1!  Her first book,The Architecture of the Roman Triumph: Monuments, Memory, and Identity, was published in 2016  by Cambridge University Press. Her current book project investigates souvenirs and memorabilia in the Roman Empire and their profound role in generating knowledge in a world before mechanical and digital reproduction. Professor Popkin’s wide-ranging research on Roman architecture, Greek vases, and ancient souvenirs has appeared in leading international journals and edited volumes. Professor Popkin is also a senior member of the American excavations in the Sanctuary of the Great Gods at Samothrace in Greece, home of the famous Winged Victory of Samothrace and one of the ancient Mediterranean’s most important mystery cults.
